Progress is a creative film studio established in 2010 by friends and filmmakers
Matt Hopkins & Ben Lankester.
Today, Progress makes commercials, branded and social content, animation and independent film under one roof, with a two-tiered management structure servicing both agency and direct clients worldwide. No matter the brief, we are Progress. Storytellers first.
Our unique structure enables us to combine our expertise in content for brands with independently produced drama and documentary work, the cornerstone
of our company since its inception.
Progress was created by filmmakers for filmmakers. Over 10 years we have watched our community grow exponentially, both in terms of our clients and colleagues at the company and in the studio, but also with the incredible filmmaking talent surrounding everything we do.
In what can often be a lonely, isolating and overly-competitive industry, OFF SET and The David Thomas Awards were born out of our desire to continue building these filmmaking communities to help grow, develop and support each other.
We’re better making progress together.
OFF SET is a night of screenings and discussions with the UK’s finest filmmakers.
Filmmaking can be a lonely place. Focusing on the balance between commercial and independent work, our ambition with OFF SET was to create an open space for filmmakers to discuss their process and craft. We wanted to bring together directors, DPs, sound designers and everyone in between to share stories and experiences, to inspire and connect with each other. Therapy for filmmakers if you like.
In March of 2019, OFF SET was born as a quarterly screening event in Brighton. With the lockdown instigated by the coronavirus outbreak of 2020, we brought the community online via a series of weekly Instagram Live discussions.

The David Thomas Awards are a collection of prizes, events and workshops supporting young filmmakers in Brighton.
The awards were set up six years ago alongside the University of Brighton in memory of local filmmaker David Thomas. Comprising three prizes, the awards aim to bridge the gap between education and industry, offering up and coming local talent in Brighton.
