Land Rover Discovery – Albania
Commissioned by Redwood, we travelled to the Accursed Mountains of Northern Albania with the Land Rover Discovery.
The Theth valley is one of the least explored corners of Europe, and this was our destination for our latest project for Land Rover’s Onelife Magazine.
We braved incredibly cold conditions – not to mention a week-long lack of mobile phone signal and central heating – to create an intimate portrait of the village and its inhabitants, splitting our time between filming the Discovery weaving through the Accursed Mountains and shooting in the valley itself.
Early on, we decided upon shooting a series of portraits of the Theth people. These slow motion close up images would serve as the backbone of the film, seeing into the eyes of the people who called Albania home.
Simply getting to Theth proved a huge challenge, with hours spent on treacherous mountain roads the only means of getting into the valley. The rewards, however, were huge. This was adventure filmmaking, and just the type of project that Progress thrives upon.
The film was met with a fierce approval upon release, garnering particular praise from the Albanian community who have so far seen a distinct lack of recognition for their unique country.
