About

The Progress Film Company

Progress started as two filmmakers who wanted to make work they deeply cared about.

Over a decade later, Progress is a full service production studio, a dedicated team of filmmakers, creatives, producers and animators bound by a shared commitment to that very same ethos.

Our Mission

Progress was created by filmmakers for filmmakers, so the films themselves have always been at the heart of everything we do. Whether in the commercial or independent space, Progress exists to tell powerful stories. Stories that matter.

Our History

Our name is from a pioneering studio established near Brighton 100 years ago by two silent era filmmakers whose independent spirit allowed them to make films on their terms. A century later, nothing has changed.

Our Culture

We’re a family business, but first and foremost we’re a family. Over 10 years we have created a culture that centres around growth and development, a welcoming space where filmmaking talent can fulfil their potential.

Our Community

As filmmakers, we believe in developing deep creative connections with those we work with. In what can often be an isolating and overly-competitive industry, we’ve built filmmaking communities to help grow, develop and support each other. We’re better making progress together.

OFF SET

OFF SET is a night of screenings and discussions with the UK’s finest filmmakers. Focusing on the balance between commercial and independent work, OFF SET was created as an open space for filmmakers to discuss their process and craft. Originally born as a quarterly screening event in Brighton, we have since brought the community online via a series of Instagram Live discussions.

The David Thomas Awards

The David Thomas Awards are a collection of prizes, events and workshops supporting young filmmakers in Brighton. The awards were set up in 2014 alongside the University of Brighton in memory of local filmmaker David Thomas, a former documentary and content filmmaker here at Progress. Comprising three prizes, the awards aim to bridge the gap between education and industry, offering up and coming local talent in Brighton the opportunity to take their first steps into the industry.
